The Creative Process

Writing and singing for me is an uplifting and spiritual experience. I really love to write songs that are honest, gutsy and emotionally expressive. Songs that are touching and piercing to the heart. For me, the melody and lyrics usually come at the same time. There is often something or someone that triggers a flow of creativity. If I’m open and present enough, in that moment, I can ride that wave and allow it to take me to new creative places. These are precious moments and gifts. I find that the best time to write is when there is a strong emotion present. Your feelings are heightened and you can capture the moment more intensely. Sometimes the songs are written right away and for others it may take years. I have realized that it’s something I can’t control. What’s important, I think, is to stay connected with what you are writing and feeling and to allow its own timing and space. I try to let go of control and the censoring, critical voice. To complete the song writing process, I work with musicians who help me create musical arrangements, which then allows me the opportunity to perform and be able to share my music with you. I have been very blessed to work with many talented musicians. I extend my deepest gratitude and appreciation to everyone who has helped me musically.

The human voice is constantly evolving. From experience I’ve seen how my voice has changed through the years. I’ve come to realize that just as we shed the layers of the self when doing personal work we do the same with our voices. I feel that on our journey we are also finding our true voice that speaks deeply and clearly from the heart. I envision this as a place where our voice is in harmony and connected to the divine. Where we are singing from the core of our being, deep within our heart. This is what I aspire to.
