Top 15 Organizing Tips

by Francesca Blandizzi

If you are an artist or a busy professional you know what it’s like to have to juggle many things at once in order to fund and make time for your craft, have some personal time or support yourself financially. Staying organized helps to relieve some of the stress and keeps you on top of things. Here are my top 15 organizing tips:

  1. 2 Minute Rule – If it takes less than 2 minutes to do, do it right away!
  2. Set up folders in your email and hard drive (takes less than 10 seconds to do!) Find what you need fast!
  3. Make a general TO DO list and prioritize your items. Do it the day before and start your day organized!
  4. Make a separate TO DO list for specific projects.
  5. Don’t procrastinate on the difficult tasks! Do them at the time of day that you are most productive.
  6. Create a checklist for events. Create a general template that can be used for all events.
  7. Set up a block of time each week to do admin tasks. Even 1 hour per week will make a huge difference.
  8. Remember to back up all documents and email regularly.
  9. Group together similar tasks i.e. return your phone at a certain time in the day.
  10. Set up a block of time each week to do your promo. Guard this time with your life!
  11. Keep receipts for everything even if you don’t think you can claim them. You can always use them for budgeting.
  12. Unclutter your work space. Purge your environment regularly. Clutter consumes an enormous amount of time and energy.
  13. Delegate. Do what you do best and delegate the rest. If you can’t afford help try using a barter system.
  14. Decide and commit to get organized and tell somebody!
  15. Schedule breaks throughout the day. Be kind to yourself!
